ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਮੂਲ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਟਰੱਕ ਡਰਾਈਵਰ, ਜੋ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸੱਤ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੈਰ-ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਰਹਿ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਹਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ (25) ਵਜੋਂ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਉਦੋਂ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਇਆ ਜਦੋਂ ਫਲੋਰੀਡਾ ਹਾਈਵੇਅ ਸੇਫਟੀ ਐਂਡ ਮੋਟਰ ਵਹੀਕਲਜ਼ (FLHSMV) ਨੇ ਹਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਪਰਵਾਹੀ ਨਾਲ ਟਰੱਕ ਚਲਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਹਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੈਰ-ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਸੈਮੀ-ਟਰੱਕ ਚਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਹਰਜਿੰਦਰ ‘ਤੇ ਹੱਤਿਆ ਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਗਾ ਹੈ। ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਨੇ 12 ਅਗਸਤ ਨੂੰ ਫਲੋਰੀਡਾ ਟਰਨਪਾਈਕ (St. Lucie County) ‘ਤੇ ਲਾਪਰਵਾਹੀ ਨਾਲ ਯੂ-ਟਰਨ ਲਿਆ, ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਹਾਦਸਾ ਹੋਇਆ। ਇਸ ਹਾਦਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਿੰਨ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਹਿਰਾਸਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੁੱਛਗਿੱਛ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਇਹ ਖੁਲਾਸਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿ ਹਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਗੈਰ-ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਯੂ-ਟਰਨ ਲੈਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ, ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਇੱਕ ਮਿਨੀਵੈਨ ਉਸਦੇ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਸੈਮੀ-ਟਰੱਕ ਨਾਲ ਟਕਰਾ ਗਈ। ਮਿਨੀਵੈਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਵਾਰ ਤਿੰਨੋਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਕੇ ‘ਤੇ ਹੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਇਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਦੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਹਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਨਿਕਾਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।
ਜਾਂਚ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਖੁਲਾਸਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿ ਸਿੰਘ 2018 ਤੋਂ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੈਰ-ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਰਹਿ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਹਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਗੈਰ-ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਮੈਕਸੀਕਨ ਸਰਹੱਦ ਪਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਕੈਲੀਫੋਰਨੀਆ ਰਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਡਰਾਈਵਿੰਗ ਲਾਇਸੈਂਸ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ। ਮੁੱਢਲੀਆਂ ਰਿਪੋਰਟਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸੈਮੀ-ਟਰੱਕ ਟਰਨਪਾਈਕ ਦੇ ਸੱਜੇ ਲੇਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਉੱਤਰ ਵੱਲ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਡਰਾਈਵਰ ਨੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਿੰਦੂ ‘ਤੇ ਮੀਡੀਅਨ ਤੋਂ ਯੂ-ਟਰਨ ਲੈਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਵਾਹਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਆਮ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਸੀਮਤ ਹੈ।
